There once was a very successful man who operated a restaurant. He employed a lovely young woman who washed dishes. This woman was also a very fine singer. She would sing at odd times and people would stop everything to listen to her lovely voice. One day she told the man, “I would like to earn more money as I can sing so well and I wash dishes.” The old man replied, “But I do not need a singer, I only need someone to wash dishes” and denied her a raise. Years went by, and oftentimes a customer would hear the beautiful singing and ask where it came from. The old man would say, “it is just a dishwasher.” One day a customer who operated the a theatre said to the old man, “she sings so beautifully, she could earn ten times what you pay her in my theatre.” The old man nodded and told the customer to go on his way. The woman overheard the conversation, rushed forward and asked the old man, “do you really think I could earn more money at the theatre?” The old man thought about the question for a long time and replied, “You are a fine dishwasher, but I don’t think your singing is very good.” Now the woman is old and can no longer sing, but she can still wash dishes.
